Ratul Alam is an abstract artist based in Sydney, Australia.

Ratul Alam is a Sydney-based artist and curator with a Bangladeshi background, whose practice centres on non-figurative abstract works that wants to explore the emotional response to abstraction. He works on canvas and paper with acrylics, oil pastels, and pencils, often building layered surfaces with sand, found materials, and his own hands.

He continues to refine his practice through ongoing study with respected art educators in Sydney, embracing a way of working that is not guided by fixed rules but pushes boundaries and welcomes the unexpected into surfaces that feel immediate, alive, and urgent. His process is driven by gesture, repetition, and the imperfect human impulse to explore. Childhood memories, lived experiences, and the natural world quietly emerge in his work.

Alam has exhibited in multiple Sydney venues, with works held in private collections across Australia, Bangladesh, Germany, and the USA. He was a finalist in the City of Sydney’s Visual Identity for Refugee Week.
